Movie Must Be Screened For Violence, Sexual Content, Official Says
NORFOLK, Mass. -- A screening of "Brokeback Mountain" has a prison officer in trouble.
The problem isn't that the movie is about gay cowboys, but rather the "graphic nature of the sexually explicit scenes," a Massachusetts Department of Correction spokeswoman said.
She said the officer didn't screen the movie for violence, assaults on correctional staff, nudity or explicit sexual content.
Inmates at the state's largest prison, about 25 miles southwest of Boston, saw the movie last Thursday.
A supervisor walked in on the screening and asked if the officer had screened it yet, the prisons spokeswoman said. The official says prisoners were allowed to see the end since only 20 minutes remained of the movie.
The spokeswoman would not say what discipline the officer faces.
"Brokeback Mountain," starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, explores the lives of two men who meet in the 1960s and begin a love affair.
It was nominated for Best Picture at this year's Academy Awards, but lost to "Crash."
Pathetic! Tell me how old are these inmates? 12? 15? What?
